Jason Flom
Jason is a 5th grade teacher at Cornerstone Learning Community (CLC) in Tallahassee, FL. As a teacher, he works to balance laughter with challenge, standards with relevance, and experiences with reflection. He earned his bachelors and masters in education from the University of Florida, before pursing outdoor education. A chance to help open CLC’s elementary school in 2001 convinced him to leave the woods for the classroom. Jessica Luallen Horton
Jessica had barely graduated from University of Florida with her M.Ed. before she had a full-time teaching job. After 10 years of dedicated service in Florida’s public schools, she’s taking a year “off” to spend with her two boys and explore education interests. She plans to pursue a Ph.D. in education, focusing on issues related to learning, teaching teachers, and policies that affect public schools.
Matt Aborn
Matt earned his B.A. at Goucher College (where he also played on the men’s soccer team) and his Ed.M. at Harvard. He currently serves as Head of Lower School at East Woods School on Long Island. Ever curious, his interests in education include the foundations of learning, classroom dynamics that lead to success, and the potential of constructive conflict to create community.
Mike Breder
Mike is the ever – popular swiss army knife at Pleasant Grove Elementary, where he works as a technology teacher. The quality of his dedication earned him the Teacher of the Year Award for his school in 2006. When not teaching, he can be found with his wife and two sons, out on his boat, playing guitar, or some combination there of. Jerrid Kruse
Though living in Sioux City, Iowa, Jerrid’s reach extends far beyond the 8th grade science classroom where he teaches, both in his impact and his interests. While currently serving as Editor of Iowa Science Teaching Journal, he is also pursuing a Ph.D. in education. His personal blog, Teaching as a Dynamic Activity, explores a range of issues and ideas that are compelling and thought provoking. Angela Maiers
With 20 years of education work (including years in a classroom) to her credit, Angela continues to learn and teach with more and more impact each year. Currently, she spends her time teaching, researching, writing (her recently published book, Classroom Habitudes), speaking, and conducting seminars across the country in the areas of literacy, learning, and 21st century education. For the past six years, she has created, developed, and organized multiple literacy institutes reaching thousands of educators across the United States. Henry Jenkins
Henry Jenkins III is an American media scholar, currently Peter de Florez Professor of Humanities and Co-Director of the MIT Comparative Media Studies program with William Uricchio. He is also author of several books, including Textual Poachers: Television Fans and Participatory Culture and What Made Pistachio Nuts?: Early Sound Comedy and the Vaudeville Aesthetic. In 2006 he co-authored this White Paper for the MacAuthor Foundation Digital Media and Learning Initiative.
