A recentĀ New York Times op-ed on Head Start misrepresents an incredibly valuable program with language that perpetuates misconceptions about the developmental appropriateness of language and reading benchmarks, among other things.

The rebuttal to read is by J.M. Holland, a pre-K teacher who address each of the authors’ points with succinct effectiveness.
